Plot summary
Fresh out of prison for a bank robbery, Marie has no wish to stay shut indoors. Baptiste claims to have come from elsewhere and to follow rules of her own making. Their paths cross three times within a few hours, and Baptiste is sure fate wants her beside Marie as companion and guard. Marie's former lover carried a briefcase, and what it holds touches political intrigue and the redevelopment of the city. A huge mechanical dragon that spouts flame appears on their way, along with several men all named Max. The two turn Paris into a board game of their own invention, laid out like the Game of the Goose, and play it for real.
