Plot summary
Jeff, a middle-aged man, recalls December 28, 1962, when he was eight years old. His mother Helen, then forty-nine, brought him to Idlewild Airport in New York for his first flight, and the boy was an aviation enthusiast who found the idea thrilling. The trip had a purpose: Helen meant to reach Los Angeles and try acting in Hollywood. After they were airborne, a passenger named Harry came over and asked to sit with them.
