Plot summary

Inside a covert laboratory, the U.S. War Department studies alien technology recovered from the Roswell incident, and a telepathic girl named Sera types out what she experiences while linked to the device. When the machine begins to harm her, the researcher John Brighton pulls her free. Meanwhile, five strangers are held against their will aboard a ship orbiting Earth, each strapped alone into a harness while black tentacles coil around their arms and legs. The harder they struggle, the tighter the tentacles grip, and the ship feeds on the energy their fear gives off. When their reactions are too few, larger tentacles cover their heads and link their minds to the ship, which provokes them into feeling more.
