Plot summary
Felice Sciosciammocca earns a little by writing letters for people who cannot read, and his friend Don Pasquale takes photographs of rich couples. The two families share one flat in Naples, and the wives quarrel over the mortgage and the rent they cannot pay. Count Eugenio loves Gemma, a dancer, and her father, an enriched cook, wants to meet the young man's family. Eugenio's real father does not approve of the love affair, so the count asks Felice and Pasquale to stage a farce: Felice becomes his uncle, the Prince of Casador, and Pasquale plays Eugenio's father, Ottavio Favetti. Every member of the two households receives a part except Concetta, Felice's second wife, who is left out and grows angry.
