Plot summary
The war in Vietnam has reached April 1968, three months after the Tet Offensive and a month after Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. A fire team of the U.S. Army is coming apart from the inside, worn down by racial tension and by the moral crises of a conflict the men never chose. Andre "Casper" Allen is a rough-edged ideologue whose radical politics have set him against Silas Meeks, the squad's machine gunner. Lieutenant Sutter, who commands the platoon, is recalcitrant, and both soldiers run up against him. Their unit is sent on a sweep through the Mekong Delta, and the mission goes badly wrong.
