Plot summary
Two years after Case Walker re-entered professional mixed martial arts, he has grown tired of it and competes in amateur bouts, where he teaches his opponents to use their skills. After one such match in Beaumont, Texas, he runs into an old friend, the MMA fighter Brody James. Brody has signed with Hugo Vega's promotion, PFC Combat, and is set to fight the seven-foot Caesar Braga in Bangkok for the PFC Championship. Brody asks Case to help him train, and Case reluctantly travels to Thailand. At the Top Fight Gym, Case encounters resistance from Brody's other trainer, Matty Ramos, and a younger fighter, Cobra O'Connor, ridicules his training and challenges him. Case deflects Cobra's moves and knocks him out, which draws Vega's attention; the promotion's marketing director, Myca Cruz, asks Case out.
