Plot summary
Geppetto, an inventor, builds a wooden puppet, and the fairy Lucilda grants Pinocchio the power to speak and move like a human. Because a talking puppet is unheard of, Geppetto keeps him out of sight, though Pinocchio longs to see the world. When a carriage loses control, Pinocchio and Tybalt, his talking horse, rescue Bella, an acrobat. Her circus belongs to a strict businessman, who recruits Pinocchio for his show and lets Tybalt manage him. Pinocchio becomes the star attraction, appearing with Bella on a circus that tours the country, and falls in love with her. He then wants to become a real boy.
