Mary Poppins, Goodbye (1984) on Netflix

Plot summary

In 1980s London, the Banks household lives at Number 17, Cherry Tree Lane. Mr and Mrs Banks have two children, Jane and Michael, and Mrs Banks's brother Robert Robertson is staying in a tent in the yard, a singer and poet who improvises songs when trouble arises. Mr Banks's investments strain the family budget, so the household looks for a nanny and places a newspaper advertisement offering the smallest pay it can. Mary Poppins answers it, a mysterious woman with magical powers. She understands the speech of animals and translates a talk between a neighbor and her dog Edward, who delivers an ultimatum to her. At a butcher's shop where the welcome is cold, she makes the butcher sing in an opera voice. In the park, a marble statue comes to life.
