Plot summary
On his way to his great-aunt Baba Yaga's with a gift from his grandmother, Mitya is tripped in the forest by the one-eyed Likho. At the hut, Baba Yaga's neighbor, the swamp Kikimora, arrives, and the two watch a magic dish that shows the tsarist kingdom, where the good Tsar Makar chafes under the rules of his scribe Chumichka. The Tsar is told that Vasilisa the Wise sent him a magic ball, and Chumichka denies it ever arrived. The dish turns red as a three-headed dragon wakes, and Mitya and Baba Yaga set out for the Tsar's kingdom on a magic stove with a bottle Mitya filled with goat's water, which turns anyone who drinks it into a goat.
