Plot summary
Isabel and George Haverstick are on their honeymoon, and it has not gone well: George has quit his job without telling Isabel, and he suffers from bouts of sexual performance anxiety. On Christmas Eve the couple visit Ralph, George's friend from the war. Ralph's marriage is also in trouble. He married Dottie for her money, dislikes her wealthy parents, and is angry with her for letting their young son play with a doll. Dottie has left Ralph, so the visitors find him alone. Isabel and George quarrel, with Isabel objecting to George's neglect, and Ralph consoles her and urges George to show his wife kindness.
