Anthony Franciosa

Biography

Anthony Franciosa was an American actor who began on the stage before moving into film and television. Born in New York City, he trained at the Dramatic Workshop and joined the Actors Studio. His breakthrough came as the addict's brother in A Hatful of Rain, a play that brought him a Tony Award nomination. He reprised the role in A Hatful of Rain (1957), winning Venice Film Festival Best Actor award and an Academy Award nomination. He followed with A Face in the Crowd (1957), This Could Be the Night (1957), and The Long, Hot Summer (1958). He won a Golden Globe for Career. Later films included Period of Adjustment (1962), Rio Conchos (1964), Fathom (1967), Across 110th Street (1972), The Drowning Pool (1975), Death Wish II (1982), and Tenebrae (1982). He led television series The Name of the Game, Search, Matt Helm, and Finder of Lost Loves, and appeared in Stagecoach (1986) and City Hall (1996).
