Lois Nettleton
Biography
Lois Nettleton was an American actress of film, stage, radio, and television who collected three Primetime Emmy nominations and two Daytime Emmy wins. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, she trained at the Goodman School of Drama and began acting professionally in 1949, making her Broadway debut that year in Dalton Trumbo's The Biggest Thief in Town. She understudied Barbara Bel Geddes in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and played Patsy on the radio soap opera The Brighter Day. Her first prominent film role came in Period of Adjustment (1962). Critics praised her 1973 Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire, and she was nominated for a Tony for They Knew What They Wanted. On television she appeared in The Twilight Zone and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, winning Emmys for The American Woman: Profiles in Courage and an episode of Insight. Later credits included The Christmas Card (2006) and voice roles in House of Mouse.
