Plot summary

Vanessa is staying at a house in the woods with her husband Alex and his brother Martel, grieving the loss of her child. She tells them she heard a loud noise, like an explosion, from the forest the night before. Martel brings up a facility in the forest that was rumored to have conducted strange experiments and where people once went missing; it closed, and the forest is now to be a preservation. Alex believes the story was invented by their father, who abandoned the two brothers. When Martel hands Vanessa a rifle for a walk, a question about selling the house turns into an argument, and Vanessa, who wants to keep it, leaves angry. Alex follows and says his brother is only trying to help them move on.
