Plot summary
Ryan Swan is the son of Ian Swan, a bounty hunter who is shot in Maui and presumed dead after he vanishes in the water there. Ryan takes up the search for whoever carried out the attack, together with a local detective and a former partner of his father's. They move through Hawaii's crime world chasing leads. A ruthless power broker threatens the three of them, and they are left with few ways forward. Their path also turns toward Paradise City, a closely guarded island community. Ryan is set on reaching the men behind his father's death and making them pay.

- Maui County Film Commissioner Tracy Bennett said a big action movie usually gets about three months of prep, but Paradise City had only two weeks, and because of the short notice the crew could not film exactly where or what they wanted, so they were constantly re-writing the script.
- Paradise City is one of the last films to star Bruce Willis, who retired from acting after he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
- Co-writer and producer Corey Large came up with the idea in 2006 of reuniting Bruce Willis and John Travolta, who had both starred in Pulp Fiction, and the film was announced twenty-seven years later, in May 2021.
