Plot summary
In 2035, a decade after humanity closed the portal the Precursors used to send Kaiju into the world, Jake Pentecost makes a living stealing and selling Jaeger parts around Los Angeles. He tracks a stolen power core to the workshop where Amara Namani, fifteen, has built her own single-pilot Jaeger, Scrapper. A run-in with the law enforcement Jaeger November Ajax lands them both in Pan-Pacific Defense Corps custody. Mako Mori, the PPDC's secretary general and Jake's adoptive sister, offers Jake a choice between prison and training new cadets, with Amara as his recruit. At the China Shatterdome, Jake trains cadets with his estranged former co-pilot Nate Lambert, while Shao Industries presses its drone program on a skeptical PPDC.
