Plot summary
Matt Teague is a journalist and Nicole Teague a theater performer in New Orleans, where she introduces him to Dane Faucheux, a college friend of hers who works as a camera operator and hopes to become a stand-up comic. The three grow close over the years. Matt and Nicole settle in Fairhope with their daughters, Molly and Evie, while Matt's long assignments as a war correspondent keep him overseas for months at a time. Dane, meanwhile, stays in New Orleans and works dead-end jobs. When Nicole is diagnosed with ovarian cancer and begins chemotherapy, Dane offers to stay with the family for a few weeks to help. As her treatment continues, he takes on more of the household duties, and his girlfriend Kat finds his loyalty to the Teagues hard to understand.
