Plot summary
The architect Garrone is battered to death with a stone phallus, and the case falls to Santamaria, chief of the homicide squad. The servants of Anna Carla Dosio, the bored wife of a businessman who is often away, carry to the police station a discarded draft of a letter she had wanted to send to her dear friend Massimo Campi, in which she writes that the two of them must get rid of Garrone. The inquiry draws Santamaria into Turin's high society, where he suspects Anna Carla of the killing and at the same time falls in love with her.
