Plot summary

Sixteen-year-old Brianna Jackson, from the Garden Heights neighborhood, wants to make it in battle rap, following her father Lawless Jackson, a local rapper. Her aunt Pooh manages her. Her mother Jay has been clean for three years and has just lost her job, so money is short at home. Bri sells candy at school to help; a security officer throws her to the ground and has her handcuffed, and the principal suspends her.
