Plot summary
John works as a window cleaner in Northern Ireland and has brought up his son Michael on his own since the boy's mother left when Michael was a baby. A terminal cancer diagnosis gives him only a few months, and he sets out to find a new family for Michael before he dies. Social workers press him for a decision, and he meets a series of households that want to adopt. One is a woman who lives alone and is open about her own history: pregnant as a teenager, she gave up that child, and a marriage ended when her husband refused to raise a child who was not his. John keeps the truth from Michael while he weighs the choice, wanting his son to have chances he never had.
