Plot summary
Anne stands alone in her empty flat and watches strangers carry away the belongings she has set out on the pavement. She slips a ring off her finger, leaves her old life in Holland behind, and travels to Ireland, where she chooses to live by herself, walking the Connemara landscape. In her travels she comes upon a house lived in by Martin, a widower and a hermit, who offers her food and shelter in return for work around the house. She hesitates but accepts, on the condition that he will not pry into her personal life. When he asks her name, she tells him to call her You.
