Plot summary
Ellen Wheeler, in London, tells her husband John that she watched a man with his throat cut sitting in a chair by the window of the large deserted house across the way. Officers search the house and find nothing. The next morning Ellen sees a new bed of Laburnum planted in the garden beside it, and the neighbor Mr. Appleby says he planted the trees during the storm but refuses to let the police search or dig. Ellen is still recovering from a breakdown, and John does not believe her.

- Filming of Night Watch was interrupted repeatedly: it shut down for a week when director Brian G. Hutton got bronchitis, and for six more weeks so Laurence Harvey could have a stomach operation. Harvey said it was appendicitis, but it was stomach cancer, which killed him shortly after the film came out.
- Night Watch reunited Elizabeth Taylor with Laurence Harvey, her co-star in BUtterfield 8 (1960), and it was the last time the pair acted together on screen.
- George Barrie and John Cameron composed Night Watch's score and Cameron was credited for it, but a significant part of the background music is not theirs, it is Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2 and Schubert's Unfinished Symphony.
