Plot summary
Two teenagers parked in a convertible at night are killed in the woods nearby, and the press takes the killings for the work of a maniac. In East Los Angeles, Inspector Robbins has an assignment for Detective Bradford, who arrives at the station in formal evening wear, summoned on his way to the opera. The case is the old house on Willows Lake, burned down by lightning and rebuilt since, a house Bradford had dealt with before. Bradford takes it and Robbins assigns Patrolman Kelton to ride along. A flashback shows an elderly couple, the Edwardses, frightened by the White Ghost near the house. Bradford drives out, walks in through an open door, and meets Dr. Acula in a turban, who says many in the house are living and dead.

- Ed Wood fan Wade Williams, a Kansas City film hobbyist-entrepreneur, paid the long overdue lab bills on Night of the Ghouls and claimed ownership of it, giving the film its first home video release on VHS in 1984, which the article calls the film's world premiere.
- Ed Wood planned to re-edit Night of the Ghouls, removing some of the Amazing Criswell's scenes and replacing them with Bela Lugosi archive footage, but a 1959 letter to associate producer Anthony Cardoza records plans he never carried out because he could not pay the film laboratory's bills, leaving the lab owning the film.
- Ed Wood originally planned to star Bela Lugosi in Night of the Ghouls, which indicates that he must have written the screenplay before 1956.
