Plot summary
John Liu works the sound board at a New York City television news station. His pregnant wife, Nita, is killed by a knife-wielding thug, and Detective Jimmy Williams can only tell him that the authorities are doing what they can. After fighting off a gang of thugs himself, Liu is unsatisfied and decides to act on his own. He puts on a ninja outfit and takes to the streets armed with katanas and throwing stars, breaking up attacks and robberies. His exploits are caught on camera by reporter Randi Rydell and cameraman Jack, colleagues who do not know his identity, and keep him in the news.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about New York Ninja (2021)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The footage for New York Ninja sat in film reels running six to eight hours with no actor credits until Vinegar Syndrome acquired it; with no audio, storyboards or scripts, Kurtis M. Spieler reconstructed the film from the footage alone.
- Special effects artist Carl Morano said the production had zero resources, with different people showing up on different days; the estimated effects budget was $100, most of which he reportedly spent on the Plutonium Killer's melting face.
- The only surviving script for New York Ninja alluded to a character named "Detective Dolemite", and the original filmmakers may have intended Rudy Ray Moore, who appeared in the 1975 film Dolemite, to play the part.
- New York Ninja was advertised in trade magazines in 1984, but the footage was shelved after its distributor, 21st Century Distribution Corporation, went bankrupt and sold its assets.
