Plot summary
A masked bandit holds up the stagecoach taking the singer Flower Belle Lee west to visit relatives, seizes its shipment of gold and carries her off when he makes his getaway. She arrives in Little Bend unharmed, but Mrs. Gideon, the town gossip, reports seeing the bandit in her bedroom, and the judge orders her out of town. On the train to Greasewood City she meets the con man Cuthbert J. Twillie, and believing him rich, she goes through a wedding ceremony performed by a fellow passenger, the gambler Amos Budge. She intends the marriage only as a pretense for respectability and takes a separate hotel room at their destination. There Twillie is made sheriff by Jeff Badger, who runs the saloon and the town.
