Plot summary
Lucy Moro and her older sister Martha campaign against the death penalty and work to clear their father, Simon, who faces execution for the killing of their mother eight years earlier. The sisters and their ten-year-old brother Ben travel between states in a mobile home. At a demonstration outside an Illinois prison, Lucy meets Mercy Bromage, a lawyer whose police officer father has ties to the case the crowd is protesting. Their politics differ, but Lucy and Mercy keep in contact over Skype, and during a demonstration in Missouri the two begin a romance. Martha, who believes Simon is innocent, hires a lawyer to look for a way to reopen the case.
