Plot summary
Edvard Munch works as a painter in the years between the 19th and 20th centuries. The art establishment turns his pictures away and his peers do not understand them. The death of his older sister stays with him, and addiction is a struggle he carries. He repeats one motif, Skrik, also called The Scream, in several techniques, and it becomes an image of fear and loneliness that people recognize around the world without knowing who made it. He falls in love in one period of his life, and an early exhibition of his paintings in Berlin causes a public controversy.
