Plot summary
In December 1910, Anna Claus has Santa's workshop running so smoothly that every toy is finished a week ahead of schedule. She offers her husband Nicholas a new route around the world, but he is absorbed in the letters children send him. Anna takes the sleigh and reindeer out to test the route herself, and a sudden storm forces her down near the Statue of Liberty. The stable boy Marcello finds that Cupid's injury needs a week of rest and brings her to a boarding house run by Mrs. Lowenstein, whose daughter Sadie is drawing police attention for speaking in favor of votes for women. Mrs. North, as Anna is called there, wins the trust of a young boarder, Nora Kilkenny, who helps her find work at a toy manufacturer's, where she becomes supervisor.
