Plot summary

On the Isle of Evil, Baron Boris von Frankenstein completes the secret of total destruction. Messenger bats carry his invitations to the world's monsters, among them Count Dracula, the Mummy, the Werewolf and the Creature. The Baron will reveal his formula and retire from his post at the Worldwide Organization of Monsters, naming a successor in his place. Francesca, his assistant, wants that role, but the Baron has chosen his nephew, Felix Flanken, a kind-hearted but incompetent pharmacist in the United States who works for the greedy Mr. Kronkite. Felix gladly accepts and sails for the island on a freighter, sharing the crossing with the monsters, while the Baron's zombie butler Yetch and his cook Mafia Machiavelli ready the island for the party.

Mad Monster Party? was one of several family-friendly voice projects Boris Karloff took on in his final years, including the 1966 television adaptation of How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. It was his final involvement in any production tied to the Frankenstein mythos that had made him a star three decades earlier.
The film's opening credits promised a soundtrack available on RCA Victor, but no commercially released soundtrack was ever produced in any format. Percepto finally put the mono RCA recording out on CD in September 1998, and Waxworks Records released it on vinyl on October 12, 2016.
Boris Karloff's and Phyllis Diller's characters were both designed to look like the actors voicing them, while Baron Frankenstein's lackey Yetch is a physical and vocal caricature of Peter Lorre. Voice actor Allen Swift also impersonated James Stewart, Sydney Greenstreet and Charles Laughton in his roles.
