Plot summary
Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy share a nursery with other toys in the home of a girl named Marcella. The toys come to life when she is away, and Ann speaks about the world outside. On Marcella's seventh birthday, a large package arrives and contains Babette, a bisque doll from Paris. The other toys welcome her, though she misses home. Captain Contagious, a pirate captain, becomes smitten with Babette and kidnaps her, carrying her off through the nursery window with his pirate band. Ann and Andy leave the nursery to rescue her. In the Deep Deep Woods, a lonely blue stuffed animal called the Camel with the Wrinkled Knees joins them as they search for Babette.

- In April 1975, Didi Conn went to the studio thinking it was a "voice-over commercial"; asked to sing by Richard Williams and Joe Raposo, she picked "Where is Love?" for the Raggedy Ann part, then sang it again in her low "gravelly" register.
- Liza Minnelli and Goldie Hawn were considered for the part of Raggedy Ann, while Dick Van Dyke was considered for Raggedy Andy.
- Director Richard Williams hired Tissa David to demonstrate a 25-second animation test, and by the end of January 1975 she had agreed; she became one of the first women to animate a leading character in a major film.
- Didi Conn recorded some of her songs with laryngitis; unhappy with her voice in "Home", she found that Richard Williams kept those sessions because he thought the illness gave her voice more emotion.
- Of the 24 songs written for the film, only 14 were included in the final cut; the rejected ones included Raggedy Andy's solo "I Like Rasslin", a dance number "The Raggedy Rag", and the anthem for the Loonies of Loonyland.
- The live-action scenes were shot at a house at 224 Cornelia Street in Boonton, New Jersey; set and costume designer William Mickley tore rooms apart, repainted Marcella's bedroom, dug a backyard pool and sprayed leaves red and gold to fake autumn.
- The star effect in the "Blue" sequence used a black card with stars and two sets of lines underneath to flicker the star, and it took four separate camera runs of the same footage to achieve.
