Plot summary
Set in the near future, Sandra, once a member of the pop group Hipstars, learns from her friend Jessa that her husband Carl, a record producer, has a lover. She sets out with her two-year-old son David in the Monolith, the car Carl gave her, bound for Carl's parents' house; the news turns her toward Los Angeles instead. Lilith, the artificial intelligence in the car, advises an off-road route. Sandra lights a cigarette, the smoke alarm sounds, and the Monolith strikes a wild deer. She leaves the car to see what happened and hands David her phone to keep him busy. He plays with the Monolith app and seals the car; the phone slips under the seat, and she finds no one at the charging station nearby.

- Cartoonist Roberto Recchioni came up with Monolith. He started it as a graphic novel for Sergio Bonelli Editore, written with Mauro Uzzeo and drawn and colored by Lorenzo Ceccotti, using Anina Pinter's costume designs. It came out in two volumes in January and May 2017, before the film.
- To promote Monolith, a website was created that advertised the film's car as if it were actually real and for sale.
