Plot summary
Deke Rivers works as a delivery man in Delville, Texas. When publicist Glenda Markle hears him sing at a campaign event, she offers him a place in the Tex Warner Show. Deke is reluctant to give up his first steady work in a year, but after losing that job he signs a contract and joins the tour. As the show travels through Texas, Deke's performances draw growing audiences, and Glenda devises publicity stunts to raise his profile. Susan Jessup, a young singer in the group, becomes interested in Deke, while Glenda encourages him with promises of a bright future and manages his career.

- Loving You was the first film whose studio bypassed the established first-run theater system: Paramount sent it straight to neighborhood theaters in New York, Chicago and Detroit, a strategy that became known as the "Presley Pattern".
- To write a script tailored to Elvis Presley, director and co-writer Hal Kanter traveled to Memphis to meet him, then joined his entourage in Shreveport for Presley's final performance on the country television show Louisiana Hayride, and used the fans' reaction and manager Colonel Tom Parker's handling of the spectacle as inspiration.
- Jana Lund plays Daisy Bricker, the woman who kisses Deke Rivers, which gives Elvis Presley his first on-screen kiss; a year earlier Lund had appeared in the rock and roll film Don't Knock the Rock.
- Dolores Hart, cast as Presley's love interest Susan Jessup in her first film role, was discovered by producer Hal Wallis in a Loyola University production of Joan of Lorraine, screen-tested on January 16, 1957, and signed for US$250 a week; Wallis had her change her name from Dolores Hicks.
