Plot summary
Brad, Frank Wheeler and Kevin, boys from the suburb of Middleton, take their pooled money into Pittsburgh hoping to see a naked woman. V, a prostitute, agrees to show her breasts, but the boys return to find their bikes gone and no money for the trip home. V speaks with Cash, her drug-dealing pimp, and with Betty, another prostitute; Cash has been skimming from the payments he passes to Waltzer, who collects for his boss Jerry. Seeing the boys outside in the rain, V offers them a ride in Cash's car. At Frank's house the car breaks down. Tom, Frank's father, comes home to find a woman he does not know, and Frank passes her off as Brad's math tutor. V stays in Frank's tree house, and Frank hopes to pair her with his father.

- John Mattson's screenplay was sold to Paramount Pictures in 1992 for $1.1 million, a record price for a romantic comedy spec script.
- Dino De Laurentiis sued Mattson, alleging the writer's agent had verbally agreed to sell the script to De Laurentiis's company for $1 million before Mattson instead sold it to Paramount for $1.1 million.
- Joe Dante was set to direct with his frequent producer Michael Finnell, but both left the project over disputes about the budget and their fees. Paramount wanted Dante to work for less than his usual fee and shoot in Canada with a non-union crew for $14 million.
- Milk Money opened just before the Labor Day weekend, and its $5.8 million gross over the four-day weekend was the highest for a film opening over the Labor Day weekend, though it was only enough to finish fifth at the US box office.
