Plot summary
In 1973, as American forces leave Vietnam, Lieutenant Bobby McBain is a prisoner of war. Roberto Santos is among the soldiers who free him, and Santos gives McBain half of a hundred-dollar bill, saying the other half may one day come back to him as a claim. Years later Santos leads a revolt in Colombia against El Presidente, and when the revolt fails, his sister Christina carries the half bill to New York and asks McBain to help. He agrees, and he gathers the men he served with in the war. Filming took place in the Philippines, standing in for Colombia, and in New York City.

- Shapiro-Glickenhaus Entertainment turned down offers from major studios and released McBain itself, spending an estimated $8-$10 million on promotion and the manufacture of 1,200 film prints rather than give up the home video rights.
- The Simpsons had its own action hero named McBain, played by Rainier Wolfcastle and modeled on Arnold Schwarzenegger, before this film came out; the show's writers later phased out the name to avoid a potential lawsuit.
