Plot summary
Lucy Mason gave up acting to work as a matchmaker at Adore, a New York City agency where she finds partners for clients whose standards she finds unrealistic. Her client Sophie keeps failing to settle, and Lucy consoles her. Lucy herself expects little from romance. She attends the wedding of a former client, the ninth she has arranged, and talks up her agency to other guests. Harry Castillo, brother of the groom, overhears her and shows interest. She declines and suggests he hire Adore instead. Her ex-boyfriend John Pitts is at the reception too, working as a cater-waiter while he pursues acting, and the two look back on a relationship that ended over money. Harry keeps inviting her to upscale restaurants, and she wonders why he bothers with her.
