Plot summary
Nick Cassidy takes a room on the top floor of the Roosevelt Hotel under the name Walker and climbs onto the ledge, where a crowd gathers and the police seal the street. Dante Marcus manages the crowd, and Jack Dougherty attempts the negotiation, but Nick will deal only with Lydia Mercer, a negotiator on leave after failing to save a man on the Brooklyn Bridge. Lydia shares a cigarette with him, giving the police his fingerprints, and Dougherty learns that Walker is Nick Cassidy, an ex-policeman convicted of stealing a $40-million diamond from David Englander, who had employed him as a guard. Nick says he is innocent and that Englander framed him for the theft to collect the insurance. Across the street, his brother Joey and Joey's girlfriend Angie work on Englander's vault.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Man on a Ledge (2012)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Sam Worthington, the film's lead actor, admitted in interviews that he had a fear of heights that he had to tackle while shooting Man on a Ledge.
- To make the Roosevelt hotel appear taller than it is, the filmmakers used a large, on-rails prop so the hotel would match shots filmed in-studio. For scenes of Nick running along the hotel's sides, extra floors were added during post-production.
- A 20-minute behind-the-scenes featurette on the disc explains how effects were achieved; producer Lorenzo describes shots of the crowd being composited onto a green chroma keying carpet laid beneath the fake ledge used for in-studio shots.
