Mickey Simpson

Mickey Simpson was an American actor who specialized in burly supporting parts and was probably best known as Sarge, the bigoted diner owner in Giant (1956). Over his career he turned up in more than 175 films and television episodes. His first screen work was reportedly a tiny bit part in John Ford's Stagecoach in 1939, and Ford later revived his fortunes by casting him as one of Walter Brennan's sons in My Darling Clementine; he appeared in nine Ford films in all. Between jobs as guards, cops, bouncers and thugs, he spent World War II in the Navy as a Shore Patrolman. On television he played in 13 episodes of The Lone Ranger between 1950 and 1956, was Boley on Captain David Grief, and played Johnny Hines on Cheyenne in 1957. He kept working, mostly in small roles, into his late fifties.
