Plot summary
While he works as a salvager in the Philippines, Sonny Stein discovers that he shares a bond with mako sharks. A Filipino shaman gives him a medallion that keeps the animals from attacking him, and Stein learns to speak with them in his mind. Alienated from other people, he settles alone in a small stilt house off Key West, Florida, and appoints himself a protector of sharks. His new world draws visitors who want to use his gift: an unethical shark research scientist and Barney, a strip club owner who wants a shark in his dancers' acts. Stein answers cruelty to sharks with the sharks themselves, turning them on anyone he judges a threat.
