Biography

Harold Sakata was an American weightlifter and professional wrestler who later became an actor. Born in Holualoa, Hawaii, in 1920, he won a silver medal in weightlifting at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. He retired from the sport in 1949 and trained in professional wrestling. Wrestling as Tosh Togo, he worked for National Wrestling Alliance territories and often teamed with Great Togo. He also wrestled in Japan between 1955 and 1957 for the Japanese Wrestling Association and mentored Rikidōzan. That wrestling career led to his casting as the mute villain Oddjob in the James Bond film Goldfinger (1964), a role he remained associated with. He later took similar screen parts, co-starring as Karate Pete in Impulse (1974) and appearing in Mako: The Jaws of Death (1976), while also working in television on series such as Sarge and Highcliffe Manor.
