Plot summary
Gene Reed has been raising his teenage son Conrad alone since his wife, the war photographer Isabelle Reed, died in a car crash three years earlier. Now a retrospective of Isabelle's photographs is planned, along with an article about the photographer's life and death. The elder son, Jonah, returns to the family house to go through his mother's work before it goes to a museum. Father and two sons are under the same roof for the first time in a long while. Gene tries to get through to Conrad, who is angry and withdrawn and fixated on a classmate named Melanie, while Jonah sorts through the work she left behind.
