Plot summary
Renee is autistic and does not speak. She waits in a canoe at camp, occupied with an app on her phone that makes sounds. Marcus arrives late, and the camp counselor pairs the two of them for a canoeing trip across the lake, which he does not like. He tries to show off how well he can paddle. Renee is not impressed, and she rocks the boat until he asks her what she wants. What she wants is to reach the shore, where she can touch the reeds that grow at the water's edge, so he paddles the canoe over to them.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Loop (2020)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Loop cast Madison Bandy, who is herself non-speaking and autistic, as Renee, and the audio recording for her voice performance was done by Vince Caro at her home to make the recording process as comfortable as possible.
- The director and animators spoke with the film's consultants to gain a sense of how a non-speaking person might communicate feelings differently, then developed a gestural language for Renee, equating behaviors like holding her ears or poking her cell phone with specific emotional states.
- Loop was Adam Burke's last animation work; he died from complications relating to his lung cancer diagnosis on October 9, 2018.
- To ensure that Renee's portrayal would be authentic, the production team on Loop brought in consultants from the Autistic Self Advocacy Network to advise them.
