Lola Versus (2012) on Netflix

Plot summary

On her twenty-ninth birthday, Lola, a Ph.D. student, accepts a marriage proposal from her longtime boyfriend Luke. Weeks before the ceremony, Luke backs out and ends the engagement. Her closest friend Alice takes her to a nightclub to encourage her to meet other men, but the thought of one-night stands with strangers brings on a panic attack. Lola spends a night at the home of Henry, a friend she shares with Luke. Outside a fish market, a man named Nick flirts with her, and though she is not ready to date, she takes his number. Before a meeting at her university, Luke turns up again, unsure about the broken engagement, and she sends him away. She presents her dissertation on silence in nineteenth-century French literature and its absence from modern popular culture. Her professors watch in confusion.
