Plot summary
Two police officers answer an emergency call at the home of Rip and Wendy Porter and find Rip drunk and Wendy injured. Rip is sent to prison for seven years. On his release he has stopped drinking and has completed anger management courses, and he raises the idea of starting a family. Wendy then tells him that while he was imprisoned she gave birth to a son and placed the baby for adoption with the Campbells in Florida. Rip wants custody, and because his signature on the adoption papers was forged, he has a legal claim. Jack and Molly Campbell have raised Joey on the Florida coast, and the two families are now in a legal battle over him.
