Plot summary
Davis Pell arrives at a new American high school from Australia with the usual teenage worries about fitting in and making friends. Caitlyn Crisp, the most popular girl in the school, takes him for a vampire, and the mistake makes him an instant celebrity. Seventeen years old and given to daydreaming, Davis does not want to lose his new popularity, so he asks Vi, his next-door neighbor, to help him keep the charade going. Vi likes the way the mistake unsettles the school's social order and joins in. Davis grows close to both Caitlyn and Vi, and the football team, led by Caitlyn's boyfriend Bon, watches his rise with jealousy.
