Plot summary
Chip Harper belongs to a UFO doomsday cult led by William Davenport. Sent away on an errand, Chip misses the ritual suicide the rest of the group carries out, and he comes back to find them dead. Three months on he lives with his parents and sells gravel for his father's company. News reports name William as a wanted man after the bodies are discovered. Chip tracks him down and learns William says he was resurrected to reconnect with Chip so they can begin a new cult. The pair perform as clowns and gather followers: Tyler, rejected by the army over a bone disorder; Diane, a mother barred from seeing her son; and Jim Smith, a hitchhiking musician.

- Let's Start a Cult grew out of Exit Statement, a 2019 short film written and directed by Ben Kitnick. Kitnick and Stavros Halkias then expanded it into a feature, co-writing the script with comedian Wes Haney over six months to a year.
