Plot summary
J. Chalmers 'Pressure' Maxwell has done his time at Sing Sing and wants to leave robbery behind. He comes out alongside his dim accomplice, Jug Martin, having refused a fellow inmate's plan to rob a bank. Maxwell hopes to buy a dog racing track in Florida and go into business with Denny Costello, his adopted daughter, but he lacks the funds. The bank that refuses him a loan is the one the inmate had in mind, and it stands beside a luggage shop, which Maxwell buys from Homer Bigelow. He puts Jug and their friend Weepy Davis to work digging a tunnel in the basement. A salesman named Jeff Randolph then talks Weepy into stocking the store with several dozen pieces of luggage.
