Plot summary
The Earth's core has run for five billion years like a giant nuclear reactor below the surface. It has now overheated and is melting down, and the planet's crust is being torn apart. Beneath Los Angeles, the pressure keeps building. A mass evacuation empties the city, and Calvin Hopkins is one of the few people who stay behind. He is searching for his fiancée, Ashley Wilkins, and does not know that she has been seized and is being held hostage. With the city growing more unstable by the minute, he has to reach her and get them both out.
