Plot summary
For six months Nora Cotterelle has directed a well-known art gallery in Paris, and she is preparing to marry Jean-Jacques, a wealthy businessman. Before the wedding she travels to Grenoble to see her son Elias, who is staying with her father, Louis Jenssens, a professor and writer. There she learns that Louis has terminal cancer and decides to remain in Grenoble to care for him. Elias spent seven years in the care of Ismaël Vuillard, the viola player Nora once lived with and married, and the boy is deeply attached to him. Ismaël has been committed to a psychiatric hospital against his will.
