Plot summary
At almost thirty, Xavier still has no publisher for the book about his year in Barcelona. He makes a living ghostwriting celebrities' autobiographies, filing freelance articles and scripting a romance television series called Love and Passion in Venice. He is close to his ex-girlfriend Martine and sometimes looks after her son Lucas. When he leaves his Paris apartment, he stays with his friend Isabelle, who poses as his fiancée at a dinner with his grandfather. The Venice series becomes a BBC co-production, so Xavier moves to London to write the English version with Wendy, a television writer. There he also begins ghostwriting the memoirs of the model Celia Shelburn, and travels to Saint Petersburg, where Wendy's brother William is to marry Natacha, a ballerina.
