Plot summary
After Queen Elizabeth II's funeral, Charles becomes king, and his family gathers around him. In his first weekly audience with Prime Minister Tristram Evans, they discuss a press regulation bill that has passed both houses and needs only Charles's assent. Charles believes the law would let the government censor the news and stop legitimate exposure of abuse of power, and he asks for alterations; Evans refuses. Mrs. Stevens, the Leader of the Opposition, comes for a weekly meeting Charles has introduced, and though she has doubts about the bill, she sees little choice but for Charles to sign. Meanwhile, Harry has begun a relationship with Jessica Edwards, a working-class republican, and Jess asks the palace press adviser James Reiss for help with an ex-boyfriend who is threatening to leak photographs of her.
