Plot summary
Justin Schumacher is twelve in 1986, breakdances with his crew the Funky Fresh Boyz, and has a crush on Jennifer, who trades her Smurfette figurine for his Garbage Pail Kid card. At the annual talent show, his rival Kip Unger gives Jennifer an expensive necklace. Justin's parents, Marty and Sylvia, cheer from the crowd as the crew performs, and Justin tries an untested headspin that sends him off the stage into a coma. Twenty years on, Dr. Cameron Frye tells Marty and Sylvia that there is little sign of recovery, and they agree to end life support. A janitor's radio playing "Rockit" wakes Justin at thirty-one, and he learns his parents are bankrupt and that Jennifer is engaged to Kip, now a promoter hosting a $100,000 breakdance contest.
